Safety & Wellbeing

Your Safety is Our Top Priority

At Kingdom Sail, safety and well-being are our highest priorities. Whether onboard or ashore, we are committed to providing an extraordinary experience for every student. We plan thoroughly, train diligently, and stay vigilant to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
Each voyage is equipped with essential safety gear, and students receive ongoing training. Daily check-ins between leadership and the crew help us monitor the overall health and well-being of all students. With small groups and dedicated mentors, we create a supportive space where teens can grow confidently in their skills, faith, and friendships, while enjoying a safe and transformational adventure.

Our Instructors

Our Kingdom Sail instructors are experienced, certified professionals fully trained in seamanship, first aid, and emergency procedures. They are trained risk managers who are ready to handle any situation. With safety plans for everything from medical emergencies to storms. They are thoroughly vetted for your peace of mind.

Our Yachts

Each voyage is carefully planned with thorough risk assessments, and we ensure the boat is equipped with all necessary safety gear, including life jackets, VHF radios, GPS systems, and emergency equipment. We also carry personal VHF radios between instructors to enable fleet communication when we go onshore.

Students

Upon arrival, students receive a comprehensive safety briefing and ongoing training throughout the trip, learning essential safety protocols and skills while onboard. We operate in small group sizes, ensuring a high staff ratio to students, allowing us to give close attention to each teen and foster a safe, supportive environment. Life jackets are worn at all times whilst under sail as well as during other water sports activities.
We love to get to know our students prior to the trip and will organise a call so that they are familiar with us when they arrive.

Emotional and Spiritual

In addition to physical safety, we care deeply about the emotional and spiritual well-being of our students. Our instructors and mentors are dedicated to creating an atmosphere of trust, inclusion, and encouragement, where students can grow confidently in both faith and friendships.

Medical

In the event that emergency medical attention is needed, our high-speed motorboats provide a swift transfer to land, where we have trusted connections with qualified doctors. We have strong relationships with local clinics and hospitals, ensuring the best care for both students and instructors. If this situation arises, we’ll be in direct communication with next of kin, and a staff member will always stay with the student throughout the process
We know seasickness can happen, especially if it’s your first time on the water. Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! Our crew will help you find a spot on the boat where you can focus on the horizon, which often helps. We’ll also encourage you to stay hydrated, eat light snacks, and avoid heavy meals before sailing. We have seasickness remedies like wristbands, ginger chews, or medication to help you feel better if you need it. Plus, we’ll support you and ensure you’re comfortable so you can return to enjoying the adventure!

Hurricanes / Tropical Storms

Our fleet stays in constant contact with each other through VHF radio and checks in with our base daily via cell phone. We keep a close eye on the Caribbean weather every day and have a comprehensive hurricane plan in place, which includes quick relocation to a safe inland shelter if needed. Thankfully, we’ve never had to use it!
